Miguel Angel Garcia Cortez, better known as Mikey Garcia is the current WBO featherweight title holder. He has a record of 31-0 with 26 of those wins coming by knockout. Let?s take a look at the career of this Mexican American boxer.

Mikey Garcia was born on December 15th, 1987 in Ventura, California. He is trained by his father Eduardo Garcia and by his brother Roberto Garcia. Mikey Garcia had a decorated amateur career as he defeated current WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia. Mikey Garcia also won gold at the 2004 National Junior Golden Gloves Championships and the 2005 National Police Athletic League Championships.

Mikey Garcia turned professional in 2006 as he signed with Top Rank which is run by Bob Arum. The first major title for Garcia was the USBA featherweight title as he defeated Tomas Villa by TKO in the first round. Garcia then won the WBO NABO featherweight title with a win over Matt Remillard.

Garcia defeated Rafael Guzman in a title defense and he also defeated Juan Carlos Martinez. That ran his record to 27-0. After three more wins vs. Bernabe Concepcion, Mauricio Pastrana and Jonathan Victor Barros, Garcia came into his fight against Orlando Salido with a record of 30-0. He defeated number one contender Salido in a fight that was never close. Salido accidently head butted Garcia in the 8th round and the fight was stopped with Garcia leading big on all three judge?s scorecards.

Garcia had to defend his WBO featherweight title on Saturday, June 15th in Dallas, Texas against Juan Manuel Lopez but Garcia failed to make weight, with 2 pounds over he lost his title on the scale. Garcia is heavily favored to win that fight that can be seen on HBO but even if he wins the title will remain vacant. Both of the losses in the career of Lopez came to Salido who Garcia dominated. Garcia is not coming into his fight against Lopez overconfident though as he believes styles make fights and that the fight against Lopez will be much different than the one against Salido.
