Talking Cinco De Mayo With Ray Flores – Saturday, May 5th, Cinco De Mayo weekend, the eyes of the boxing world would have been riveted on Las Vegas where Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) would face off against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in potentially the biggest fight of the year, a rematch for middleweight supremacy. Now the fight is gone.
This past Wednesday, April 18th, The Nevada State Athletic Commission ruled a 6 months suspension for Alvarez for testing positive for traces of clenbuterol, an illegal beta-adrenergic agonist substance used to beef up Mexican livestock.
Golovkin needed to find a new foe. Now GGG is set to fight former two-time world title challenger Vanes Martirosyan (36-3-1, 21 KOs) for the WBA and WBC world middleweight titles at the StubHub Center in Carson California.
On this segment our boxing analyst Ray Flores talks about Golovkin vs. Martirosyan.
