John Scully Talks Aug 5 Gerald McClellan Benefit – It was back on February 25th, 1995 that former WBC and WBO world titleholder Gerald McClellan fell under the punches of Nigel Benn. The official record reads that Benn scored a knockout at the one minute and forty six second mark of the tenth round to retain his WBC world title at super middleweight.
What is sometimes forgotten is that every day since that fight, Gerald McClellan has required medical care because of the injuries sustained in the bout. Though McClellan was remembered and received attention after the fight, the ensuing two decades have seen McClellan continue to struggle. Because boxing is without a true support system, McClellan counts on the daily care of his immediate family and he will need such care for the rest of his life.
In steps former light heavyweight contender John Scully. Scully has kept a long list of contacts during his four decades in boxing and he has dedicated a lot of energy in recent years to networking and bringing the world of boxing closer together. Scully had success earlier this year raising funds for Puerto Rican champion Wilfredo Benitez and Scully has put together a fund raiser for McClellan and his family scheduled for this Saturday, August 5th.
Check out our conversation last month with Scully when the August 5th event was in the early stages of planning.

Can you think of a better room and a better group of boxing people to watch the Vasyl Lomachenko vs Miguel Marriaga fight with?
The McClellan family has also set up a page for donations at https://www.gofundme.com/n4hjic. Donate if you can. The family set a modest goal of $20,000 back in 2015 when the page was set up and the goal has not been met. This is a chance to help McClellan and his family directly.
