Saunders vs Lemieux Preview with Frank Lotierzo – WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders is in Quebec, Canada for his Saturday title defense against David Lemieux.
Saunders has held the WBO middleweight belt since his December of 2015 defeat of Andy Lee. Since then Saunders has been relatively inactive, making two title defenses in between layoffs of one year and of nine months. This defense in Canada marks the first time Saunders has fought outside the U.K. as a pro and it comes on a short turnaround time from his last fight in September when he beat Willie Monroe Jr. Saunders knows bigger challenges and bigger paydays lay ahead if he can get by Lemieux.
As for Lemieux, the Canadian slugger has his best chance at a world title in this fight. In his previous world title shot he faced Gennady Golovkin and he fell in eight rounds. In the slick boxing Saunders, he is not facing a fighter with real knockout power and he has lured him to Canada.
