On December 12th, at the Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia, Roy Jones Jr will face Enzo Macarenelli as the now 46 year old Jones continues his pursuit of a World title in the Cruiserweight division.
Jones made the news when he formally became a Russian citizen, as the document made doing business in Russia easier for Jones.
That set the way for this December match with Maccarenelli, which despite Enzo's recent slide and retirement, is considered a step up from the competition he has been facing.
Jones has gone (5-0) in 2014 and 2015, including a pair of fights within a month of each other, but that has all been against journey-man and trial-horses.
Maccarenelli is (40-7) overall and at 35 years old, he is eleven years younger than Jones.
Maccarenelli held the minor WBU World Cruiserweight title and he held the WBO's World title through four defenses before dropping the belt to David Haye in March of 2008.
He took almost a year off after his April of 2014 loss to Juergen Braehmer for the WBA World title at Light Heavyweight, but he has gone (2-0) in 2015 to fuel this comeback.
It is an interesting side note, with the bout scheduled for Moscow, there are already strong rumors that the match will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin, a former judo player, has long supported the martial arts and he attended the Mixed Martial Art event held in Saint Petersburg, Russia on April 14th, 2007 where Russian fighting legend Fedor Emilianenko faced American wrestler Matt Lindland in the main event.
For right now, Roy Jones Jr will be facing Enzo Maccarenelli in Moscow on December 12th, with a bout likely to have a World cruiserweight title on the line.
