Povetkin vs Rudenko Vie For WBO Regional Belt – The WBO Inter-Continental title at heavyweight will be on the line this weekend in Moscow as Alexander Povetkin faces Andriy Rudenko in a twelve round bout.
The 37 year old Povetkin is perhaps the most controversial figure in the heavyweight division this side of Tyson Fury, as the Russian former Olympic Gold Medalist has tested positive twice in recent years for PEDs. One of those tests resulted in the last minute cancellation of his WBC world title match with Deontay Wilder and an “interim” WBC titled match with Bermane Stiverne went by the wayside after the second failed test.
Despite Povetkin’s recent track record, the WBO has cashed the sanctioning check and the fight with Rudenko could leave him with a major regional belt with the WBO and a #1 contender spot against world champion Joseph Parker.
