Monday Morning QB Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Jacobs – This past Saturday night saw the long awaited Gennady Golovkin versus Daniel Jacobs middleweight showdown go down at New York’s Madison Square Garden and on HBO pay-per-view.
Golovkin entered the fight 36-0 and with a slew of world titles at 160 pounds while Jacobs held a stand-out 32-1 record and the WBA “Super World” middleweight title, giving the figh tthe gravitas of a title unification bout. The men fought a technical fight that saw neither really bring their big knock out power to bear. Golovkin broke through and scored a knock down in round four but Jacobs recovered and boxed well through to the end of the fight. In the end, it may have been Golovkin’s knockdown that saved the day for him as the judges had the fight 114-113,115-112,115-112 in favor of Golovkin, who moves to 37-0 and holds most of the relevant world titles at Middleweight.
