After failing to capture his first ever WBO welterweight title last October in a loss to Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez will head back to the ring to face what could be a dangerous opponent in Mike Alvarado on May 17.   Marquez vs. Alvarado will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing®, beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

That is the prize that many great fighters pay. They just cannot accept when it is over. It is over for Marquez. But he doesn't believe it. “Mile High Mike” is going to give him a fit. And if Marquez losses, he still will not quit.

It will not be surprising that in Cali, he is going to be given a gift win or draw. Holla!

I see this being a very close fight with Alvarado being much more active but Marquez landing eye catching counters. And the crowd will be on Marquez's side cheering everytime he lands which could have influence on the judges. I definitely could see a controversial draw or decision in favor of Marquez.

Agreed. I am getting a bit of a Marquez-Diaz I vibe from this scrap. I think it goes the route but I actually think Marquez takes this one. Alvarado would be wise to box and use his height and length but he won't be able to help himself and will brawl and get countered often. Marquez should take a cue from Provodnikov and do some body work early that will yield dividends in the championship rounds of the fight. Marquez 115-113.
