Kovalev vs Shabranskyy – Former light heavyweight kingpin SergeyKovalev returns to action on November 25th to face Vyacheslav Shabranskyy with the vacant WBO world title at 175 pounds on the line.
Kovalev (30-2-1) is now 34 years old. He is coming off a pair of losses to Andre Ward, whose retirement created the WBO belt vacancy that created the match with Shabranskyy. Kovalev finds himself in a weight class with a lot of up and coming talent. However, “The Krusher” has always been motivated by belts.
In Shabranskyy, he is facing a fighter with a 19-1 overall record who has gone 2-0 thus far in 2017. Late in 2016 he experienced the first loss of his career against Sullivan Barrera of Cuba and he enters the fight at the end of November at 19-1 overall,
In this latest TBC segment, we ask our analyst Frank Lotierzo the question “Can Sergey Kovalev unite the belts at 175 pounds in the post-Andre Ward era?” The other champions at 175 pounds include WBC titlist Badou Jack, IBF champion Artur Beterbiev and WBO titlist Dmitry Bivol.
