Lotierzo Looks at the Middleweight Division (160 LBS)

Lotierzo Looks at the Middleweight Division (160 LBS) – One of last year’s major PPV boxing bouts featured middleweight action as Gennady Golovkin took on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The bout saw Golovkin  bring the IBF, WBA and WBC world title belts to the table while “Canelo” came with all of his star power to make the bout one of the most anticipated of last year. The pair dueled for 36 minutes and at the end the judges returned a draw on the scorecards. The fight was expected to decide who the top gun in the weight class would be heading into 2018. However, Alvarez and Golovkin are going to have to do it again to decide who is boss.

WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders closed out 2017 in grand fashion, dispatching the challenge of David Lemieux in his first pro fight outside of the U.K. The Brit answered a lot of questions as he stepped onto the world stage for the first time. The division awaits what Saunders will do for an encore.

Former world champions Daniel Jacobs and Jermall Charlo add depth to a division that is awaiting the outcome of Alvarez vs Golovkin 2, which is expected this year in the May time frame. Charlo looked especially dangerous in his first outing in the weight class when he stopped Argentina’s Jorge Sebastian Heiland, while Jacobs became the first man in more than 20 fights to extend Golovkin the distance when they met in March of last year.
