To me, Oquendo's only hope is to hope that Mares is shopworn. Its not out of the question either as Mares fought one brutal schedule the past four years with his share of tough fights in the ring during that time frame. Then he gets clipped and knocked out fairly brutally in one round in a fight he was heavily favored.

Do I think Mares is shopworn? No, just saying its possible. Oquendo is the perfect foe to find out where Mares is at in his career. If Mares is fine and just needs to shake off some ring rust, he will handle Oquendo easily and should get a knock out win. However, if Mares is getting hit a lot and has troubles would it tell me that Mares, despite his young chronological age, may have aged very quickly inside a boxing ring.

I think Mares got caught a little cold against Gonzalez. I think he dominates here against Oquendo and gets himself in line for some big potential fights at featherweight in the near future.
