Joe Smith Jr Media Talk Post-Fight – Last night in the main event of HBO Boxing, Joe Smith Jr scored an eighth round TKO victory over legendary 51 year old Bernard Hopkins to give the mild mannered, hard hitting New Yorker two very high profile wins in 2016.
In June of this year Smith Jr traveled to Chicago as an underdog to face the highly rated WBC International light heavyweight champion Andrzej Fonfara and he walked out with the belt after a first round knockout. That led to the match with Hopkins, a legendary future Hall of Famer who was making the final appearance of his career. At the start of 2016, it is unlikely that many boxing fans knew about promoter Joe DeGuardia’s Long Island product, but Smith Jr has made 2016 a year to remember.

Last night after the show was over, the lights were turned on at the Inglewood Forum and the clean-up crew went to work and walking among the people in the cavernous arena was the WBC International champion Joe Smith Jr. Smith was surrounded by members of the media and peppered with questions, and it is safe to report he remains soft-spoken as usual. He may be quiet by nature but he also may be on his way to becoming a big star. Check out what Joe Smith Jr had to say right here at TBC. Footage shot by Marcelino Castillo.
