This weekend's HBO Boxing card from the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York sees a highly anticipated co-main event in the Super Featherweight division as Nicholas Walters faces Jason Sosa in a bout scheduled for ten rounds.

Right now at the sport books, the undefeated Walters, who is (26-0) is heavily favored, paying back at (-1500), while Sosa, whose record is (18-1-3) comes back at (+1000).

Sosa is not to be written off however, as he has had a fine 2015, going (5-0) so far with 5 stoppage wins.

A win over the highly regarded former world champion in Walters would be a huge step for Sosa, as he has no one on his resume the caliber of Walters.

Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank announced earlier this week that the winner of the bout would meet Japan's Takashi Uchiyama when the WBA “Super World” Super Featherweight champion makes his debut in the United States.

The fight will air on HBO and is penciled in for the April – June time-frame.

For Uchiyama, he is headlining the traditional New Year's Eve boxing event in Tokyo, but he is expected to be a huge favorite over his opponent, Oliver Flores of Nicaragua.

Uchiyama is undefeated at (23-0-1) but the announcement that he will be fighting outside of Japan will be seen as a new challenge to the long-time champion who is now 36 years old.

The match-up Arum wants here is clearly Walters versus Uchiyama, as Walters is in need of a “big fight” after a quiet year in 2015 that has seen him go (1-0) so far.

Walters, who is 29 years old and is considered one of the top fighters in the world today would be happy to greet Uchiyama, long the #1 ranked Super Featherweight in the word according to the TBRB.org Rankings, as he makes his debut outside of his home country.

That is, unless Jason Sosa has his way about things.

Walters versus Sosa is this weekend at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York and airing on HBO.
