I am always disappointed when a fighter misses weight and think that takes some of the starch out of the fight. In many cases, I think a lot of them do so to essentially buy an advantage (Salido, Guzman, Mikey Garcia, Broner and many others have pulled that trick in the past). In this case, Rubio has been at 160 for a long time and is getting older. I think he legitimately couldn't get to 160. Its still disappointing as a fan but I don't think he was trying to purchase an advantage here like many have knowingly done so in the past. The odds are long anyway and this is probably his last big payday so why sacrifice any of it. This is an occasion in my opinion where he tried legitimately and couldn't do it.

If Rubio knew he could not make 160 pounds, why did he sign for a title fight? What's going on at that gym? Mikey Garcia. Brandon Rios. Marco A. Rubio. Three big name fighters. Three guys who have had trouble making weight in top fights.

I'm glad he got whacked for $100,000.

Start watching the scale a little closer, you guys at Oxnard!
