Golovkin Retains Belts in Tight Battle – Gennady Golovkin added the WBA world title at 160 pounds to his collection with a tight unanimous decision win over Daniel Jacobs, who rose to the occasion with an excellent performance.
The co-feature of the evening saw WBC world super flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez fall at the hands of Thailand’s Wisaksil Wangek, who was introduced by his nickname Sor Rungvisai. Rungvisai proved to be rugged and ready to go the full 12 rounds as he bloodied the champion while moving forward the whole fight. Wangek was a huge underdog at the sports books but he is leaving NYC with the WBC’s world title at 115 pounds.
