Frank Lotierzo Talks Povetkin and PEDs – The December 17th WBC interim world heavyweight title fight between Alexander Povetkin and Bermane Stiverne literally came apart at the seams at the last minute as the WBC pulled their sanctioning of the fight due to a positive PED test by Povetkin.
Read “Povetkin Blows Hot, Now Facing Johan Duhaupas” for news from when the story broke.
Povetkin had tested positive for a banned substance earlier this year that led to the cancellation of his WBC world title bid against Deontay Wilder. Povetkin last fought in November of 2015 when he won the WBC Silver heavyweight belt by stopping Poland’s Mariusz Wach in the 12th round. Povetkin was relieved of the Silver title after his first PED-related incident, and the vacant belt was won by Johann Duhaupas of France, who is the fighter stepping in to face Povetkin now that Bermane Stiverne has been pulled from the fight.
