Frank Lotierzo Talks Parker vs Fury – Current WBO world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (22-0) of New Zealand is scheduled to make the first defense of his title this coming April 1st. The deal, with England’s undefeated (20-0) Hughie Fury in the opposite corner, is practically finalized.
The 25-year-old Parker won the belt this past December when he outpointed American Andy Ruiz Jr to earn the vacant title. His promotional team is pushing for the fight to be held in Auckland, though a final location has not been formally announced.
As for the 22-year-old Fury, the April 1st date will mean it will have been 11 months since we last saw him enter the ring. Fury is the cousin of British heavyweight Tyson Fury, who once held the title now in the hands of Parker, but vacated it in the build-up to his cancelled rematch with Wladimir Klitschko. Hughie Fury will be entering his first title fight trying to step out from the shadow of his infamous cousin.
