Featherweight Daniel Franco in Coma – This past Saturday night, June 10th, boxing fans were served a reminder of just how risky the sport can be as featherweight contender Daniel Franco was on the receiving end of a frightening knock-out punch from Jose Haro that ended their bout in the eighth round. The bout took place at the WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa, and aired on the CBS Sports Network.
Though Franco was responsive after the bout, he was rushed to the hospital where emergency surgery was performed to relieve pressure on his brain caused by two bleeds. ESPN and Dan Rafael are reporting that Franco is now in a medically induced coma and that the next 48 hours are critical to his recovery. Franco was 16-1-3 heading into the bout and he is under the Roc Nation Sports promotional company. Franco is just 26 years old and he fights out of the Riverside area of California. The thoughts and prayers of TBC and the entire boxing community are with Daniel Franco and his family during this most difficult of times.
