Deontay Wilder vs Gerald Washington on FOX Feb 25 – The news served as yet another downer in a heavyweight class that has been reeling from the effects of failed PED tests. The news, which broke late last week, informed us that Deontay Wilder’s February 25th opponent Andrjez Wawrzyk of Poland (33-1) had tested positive and would not be fighting.
Wilder’s February fight was set under the Premier Boxing Champions flag and the bout was set to air on FOX in the United States. Wilder had been widely criticized for taking a soft opponent in the relatively unknown Wawrzyk, but he has not fought since July of last year while nursing several injuries to his right arm.
In steps former USC football player Gerald Washington (18-0-1) to fill in on short notice and make the fight happen. Wilder had been challenged by Cuba’s Luis Ortiz (25-0), but the Wilder camp stated they would not fight Ortiz due to his having tested positive for PEDs in the past.
