Deontay Wilder Talks Bermane Stiverne and More – Saturday, October 14th, saw the Premier Boxing Champions at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for a huge night of fights featuring three world title contests in the super welterweight division.
The PBC will be back at the Barclays Center on November 4th when they deliver WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s latest title defense against Bermane Stiverne. Wilder was in Brooklyn for Saturday’s super welterweight showcase and the PBC hosted an evening press conference at the Barclays Center where Wilder had a chance to talk about his upcoming second go with Bermane Stiverne.
Wilder and Stiverne first met back in January of 2015 and Wilder walked away with a unanimous decision victory and the WBC world title. Stiverne has lobbied for a rematch ever since while Wilder went on to make five successful defenses. Wilder was originally scheduled to face undefeated Cuban Luis Ortiz but that fight fell by the wayside when Ortiz failed a PED test. For his part, Stiverne has fought only once since his title loss to Wilder, but it isn’t for a lack of trying. Stiverne had an “interim” title shot fall by the wayside when opponent Alexander Povetkin failed a PED test. Whatever the case, November brings us Wilder vs Stiverne II, a fight more than two years in the making.
