Corrales Earns Second Win Over Uchiyama- Jezreel Corrales of Panama  successfully defended his WBA “Super World” super featherweight belt with a hard fought split decision win over former champion Takashi Uchiyama at the Ota-City Gym in Tokyo this New Year’s Eve Saturday.

Corrales traveled to Japan last April as a major underdog to face Uchiyama, who had held the WBA title for more than half a decade and he walked out with a second round KO victory. Corrales was forced to box against a very focused former champion, but the Panamanian who goes by the nickname “El Invisible” showed solid technique throughout the fight. In the end, this will be the second time he leaves Tokyo as a world champion.

The co-main event saw WBA world light flyweight titlist Ryoichi  Taguchi face undefeated Venezuelan Carlos Canizales in his fourth title defense. Canizales, a hard hitting 23 year old, put on  game performance that saw the judges split at the end, calling the fight a draw.
