Buddy McGirt Talks His Latest Charge – Sergey Lipinets – Former welterweight world champion James “Buddy” McGirt is in Brooklyn this Saturday night to oversee the corner of Sergey Lipinets. Lipinets is 12-0 as a pro and Saturday sees him disputing his first world title as he faces Japan’s Akihiro Kondo for the vacant IBF belt at 140 pounds.
A former two-division world champion, McGirt retired in 1997 with a career mark of 73-6-1. Since his retirement, McGirt has been working as a boxing trainer and in the young Kazakh Lipinets the team has gotten to a world title shot in just a dozen fights.
In this latest TBC interview, our “road warrior” analyst Ray Flores catches up with McGirt to talk about his fighter Sergey Lipinets and his first world title shot coming up this Saturday night.
