Billy Joe Saunders vs Artur Akavov – The return of WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0) set for this Saturday in Cardiff, Wales, has been postponed. Saunders will now be fighting in Scotland on December 3rd against the same opponent, Artur Akavov (16-1).
The delay was caused by problems with the medical and licensing paperwork that the British Boxing Board of Control received from the Akavov camp. Apparently Akavov completed the exams in his native Russian and they needed to be translated.
The fight will now take place at the Lagoon Leisure Center in Paisley, Scotland on a card that is still being defined. Saunders versus Akavov moves into the headline spot of a card previously topped by Jack Catterall’s WBO Inter-continental title defense at 140 pounds.

Saunders — whose name has popped up as a potential challenger to Gennady Golovkin – – has not fought since December 13th of last year when he defeated rival Andy Lee via majority decision to take the WBO world title. Since then, he was forced to address a hand injury and had several fights fall out. This last delay came up with the fight just days away, but there isn’t anything that Saunders could have done.
