Berchelt Stops Awuku in Cancun – Last night in Cancun, Mexico WBC world super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt stopped Ghana’s Maxwell Awuku in the third round. The fight aired on the beIN Espanol sports channel in the United States and was considered a showcase for Berchelt who is now 33-1 and looking at bigger fights in the weight class.

Berchelt won his world title in January of 2017 when he outlasted rugged Francisco Vargas. This match with Awuku marks his second successful title defense and he has now held the belt for over a year. Berchelt may now be looking at a showdown with Top Rank’s Vasyl Lomachenko who is in the top three of most pound for pound lists and holds the WBO world title at super featherweight.
