Alexander Povetkin Calls Out Joshua After Saturday Win – This past Saturday night in Moscow, Russia’s former Olympic gold medalist Alexander Povetkin defeated Andriy Rudenko to run his professional record to 32-1. The match nets Povetkin regional titles with the WBA and WBO and though he did not score the knockout, Povetkin showed his boxing acumen in this one, far out-distancing Rudenko on the scorecards.
Despite the controversy surrounding him, the 37 year old Povetkin has been doing some of his best boxing in recent outings and he certainly still harbors dreams of taking a heavyweight world title back to Russia with him.
Alexander Povetkin Calls Out Joshua After Saturday Win
Povetkin was scheduled to face WBC world champion Deontay Wilder in 2016 but a failed PED test sent that match to the scrap heap and a December bout for a WBC interim title against Bermane Stiverne also fell apart due to a failed PED test. Saturday’s fight with Rudenko was for vacant WBO and WBA regional titles and the win had Povetkin calling out WBA and IBF world titleholder Anthony Joshua.
